Autism is a condition that involves communication problems. People with communication and learning issues, they don't understand other people's emotions. They also express themselves differently, through speech and touch. Sometimes it can be uneven, and that's how they develop. They could be horrible at communicating but really good at math or science. Mostly it includes trouble with eye contact, not listening to people and not wanting to be cuddled or held. Also, sensory issues and having trouble with noises. It stems from issues is brain stems. It can also be caused if a parent or someone in the family had it. There isn't a miracle treatment, but there is some medications that can be taken. Which includes helping with depression, inability to focus, or seizures. There is also therapy services that can help slightly. Typically with getting diagnosed, they ask development questions. Like if they smiled before six months, but typically ASD is noticed before 18 months.

Parkinson's is a gradual muscle control loss which is a brain disorder. That includes tremors, stiffness and bad balance. All of the symptoms are gradual and will evolve over 20 years. The symptoms start with slight shaking of fingers, small and crowded handwriting, and difficulty walking. Then things evolve into delayed movement, or getting a sudden stop in movement. There is also impaired balance where posture stoops and their head is over their shoulder. Among all of that, they have muscle pain. My great uncle had it when he was 50, and he would shake constantly while doing everything. He would be mixing something and drop the spoon because he would shake so bad. It was sad to watch and it really did suck for him. I think that this would be a pain to deal with through an everyday life and through what someone needs to get done. Typically, the people get diagnosed when they're older. It isn't something that is common among teenagers or children. It runs along somebody's sixties, so it isn't something I necessarily should be worried about right now.
Everyone has one thing that they don't like about themselves, but with anorexia, it's more than that. They don't eat because they feel like they're too fat. Which isn't true, they just see themselves that way. They continuously are malnourished, and lose weight at an unhealthy pace. It goes until they end up in the hospital, because they've reach a low that is unliveable. It can look a little scary seeing how skinny they get and how much their bones stick out. They also could do a very intensive exercise routine, which can be
ADHD, I'm betting you either thought of someone you know or someone who can't focus and bounces off the walls. Which is a true stereotype, because it includes hyperactivity, inattention, and impulsivity. Hyperactivity is where the person needs to move in unnecessary situations. As in, finger taps, fidgets, which can be annoying to most people. Inattention includes disorganization, wandering off task and looks like they lack drive or persistence. Impulsivity is making minor and major decisions and don't think of consequences following. I have a family member who has ADHD, and it can be pretty clear. When he was little, he really couldn't sit still and focus. Some of his teachers didn't like him for it, but others liked his personality. Now, even in school, he has some struggles focusing but mostly it has gotten better and a little easier to control. But some possible reasons of having ADHD are that the brain chemical dopamine is offset or even neurotransmitters. But usually a parent has it, and their child has a 50/50 shot of having it. If an older sibling has it, there's over a 30% chance of the next sibling having it. Also, there is a chance a child will have ADHD if their mother drank or smoked while pregnant. I do struggle sometimes to focus, like any student does but I don't have ADHD. Many people make jokes during class, saying, "Oh I am so ADHD." When they can't focus or get off topic. But it really sucks for those who have to take pills to control it.
Anxiety, a commonly overused term that people use lightly. People claim to have bad anxiety, but are undiagnosed. Which is upsetting for those who have it, because they aren't taken seriously. I have anxiety, so I have first hand experience on what it is like. Constant thoughts about what others will think, just being anxious about everything you do. It isn't fun and relatable, so don't claim to have it if you don't.
\Depression, a term that shouldn't be taken or used lightly. 'Psychiatry. a condition of general emotional dejection and withdrawal; sadness greater and more prolonged than that warranted by any objective reason.' is the meaning on Depression.com which is actually pretty true. Randomly, you get hit with just being sad for no reason. On mayoclinic.org, there's many symptoms listed such as lack of interest, angry outbursts, sleep disturbances and even just having trouble making decisions.
It may seem stupid to most people, but it can be very serious in some cases. Some people will experience suicidal thoughts, and will self harm because they feel like they deserve it. Some of my friends have them, and I hate that they do because they are so much better than what they see and think. They feel empty and worthless, and like nothing will ever get better. Which isn't true, they are definitely amazing and I remind them all the time. I personally experience depression, and I don't like to tell many people because that isn't my identity. I'm so much more than the thoughts that I won't be good enough. I'm not just the sad girl. Sometimes I fall into the pit of just not feeling like doing anything or sitting in my room listening to music. I love to spend time with family and friends, which make me smile when I am not feeling the best. I definitely didn't feel it until I was around 13. When researching why people develop depression, I found many possibilities. The one you hear in Health class, for many years is the common "chemical imbalance" which is true but it's too vague. Research shows that the hippocampus is much smaller within those who have depression by nine to thirteen percent within women. Stress also contributes to the non-production of new neurons in the hippocampus. Medication often is delayed in helping those who need it because it takes time for nerves to grow and build connections. Antidepressants help the hippocampus grow, as research shows. Welcome to the start of what I hope actually works. I enjoy writing, it just helps get the thoughts out and I like to write about topics I actually like. Sometimes, it becomes a lot when you write about topics you're not interested in or have no opinion on.
So anyways, I chose Health because mental health interests me. It's intriguing learning the reason why people have a certain "mental disorder." The more obvious topics, anxiety and depression, I have personal experience with so I'll have more to say about those topics. I plan on researching the topics of course. I also plan on writing about physical health too, about topics that seem interesting. I just don't think I want to write second hand entertainment news, that seems boring to me. I've always felt like Health is interesting, because things are facts and it can't change up too often. As well as I want to be a pediatrician. Previously, I wanted to be a vet and then a dermatologist. I just find medical topics intriguing, and I even follow pages on social media of more medical pages, that show surgeries, body parts and are just uncensored. Most people don't look much further into medical topics. I feel like not many people want to cover health topics because it seems boring but sometimes I catch myself falling into a YouTube hole. That consists of many videos of uncommon medical issues and the explanation behind them. Some may be not seem interesting, like depression. But why people get that, through genetics or some other explanation can be cool. The thoughts and the stories many people don't know and I'm here ti inform you and also, give my insight on the topics because otherwise, it's not a personal blog. |
